SelfThere is this idea in modern American culture that one must be just one thing. Just one occupation, just one gender, just one identifying label. Why is this? Why do I have to be just one thing? Why do I have to pick a door? Well, actually, I don't. I am a scientist/painter/autist/alchemist. I refuse to be just one thing. And the places which excite me most are those places where the edges blur and the labels cross, and suddenly there aren't any doors anymore but a threshold of possibility. Thresholds are much better than doors: you never have to pick just one, and they never close. Self-References The following subcategories are available: |
